Great video Doc!  On the bottom of the Johnson plastic water pump housings there's a groove and a small rubber spaghetti gasket that goes in there to complete the seal.  Keeping this in place during installation has by far been the hardest part of the process for me.  Any experience, thoughts, or suggestions?  Thanks!

Yup.

Prior to installing the Oring on the bottom.

Slide the impeller down the shaft and key it into position.

Place the cup inside the housing.

Slide the housing with cup installed down onto the impeller....and install the impeller into the housing.

Lift the housing OFF...and attempt to keep the cup down on the impeller.

Remove the housing only and install the Oring.
Slide it back down over top the cup.

2 nuts retain it....front and just above the prop.

Here is what may work, its how I do it.

Spin the front one down a small amount and pry against it.
Once it moves down a little, you should be able to pry along where the case meets the leg.

Sometimes it gets hung up on the water intake screen above the prop.

If it fails to come apart, it may be that one or both of the shafts are corroded in place.

Thank you for these videos, for some of the simpler things like water pumps and oil changes I could see doing this myself to save costs.  Smiley

Question: Starting the water pump replacement with all other parts removed as the video shows looks relatively simple, but the question is how do you remove everything to get to that part?  In addition and probably more important how do you put it back together?

If there is any way to show this it would be greatly appreciated.  Of course if I consult the manual I may be able to figure it out myself, but where did I put that thing?  Hmm...  Undecided

Thank you for the quick response!  I'll have to try to give that a whirl with a Evinrude...  We'll see how it goes

I hope you had a great Easter!

Cheers!

How many bolts need to be removed to drop the lower unit on a 150 Mercury?

Dawn dishwashing detergent works great to get the impeller in the cup. Just squirt alittle in the cup & let it roll around the insides before pushing down on the impeller.     Wink   Cool

I have a 2003 Johnson 150hp that seems to be spitting diminished volumes of water out the tell tail.  it only does this when under way in the water.  When using the muffs to flush the engine it spits water like a champ.  I assume it is a problem with the impeller and not a blockage.  I need to know what is the reality of doing this myself?  I don't have a shop but i feel confident with the job and the tools i have.  I also was wondering what the proper parts are for this job.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
