Cool forum, and learning a lot here.
Question on the carb rebuild. Once you put them back on the engine, what is involved in adjustments?
Is there a easy method to follow or is that up to a trained mechanic?

That style of carb should just bolt directly back on.

There is a procedure that is involved if stuff is monkey'd with...but if just taken off and put back on...should be fine.

Where is the screws that are adjustable that we don't want to mess with? Is it the jets that are adjustable or is there a screw in front of them that is what we don't want to touch?
Oh yeah! Forgot to mention...I have a 1986 OMC 1.6L seadrive. Just had a new rebuilt Johnson powerhead put on. My mechanic said it is a 140 HP 1990 bubbleback that he used.
I just put a new Stator, Regulator/Rectifier, Power Pack and 2 coils on. She is running great now.
Needed a refresh I guess after 20 years. Not looking to monkey with the carbs now, but figured after breakin and back to normal oil, if she wasn't quite right yet, I would go into the carbs.
Seems today with the muffs on, it was really smooth and fast on the throttle. Was not like that for over 10 years, so something must have done me good. Will know more tomorrow once I go down to the coast and run her for a day.

Are you carbs plastic or metal?

Nothing adjustable on the metal carbs. <---fixed jets

Timing and throttle actuator are adjustable...but like I said...not something that just goes out of whack.

Through reading the manual it all looks straight forward until the end.  The manual indicates adjusting the low speed needle valve till highest rpm is found then adjusting the high speed needle valve at wot till you get the highest rpm.

I have a 1985 15 hp Evinrude.  I haven’t rebuilt it yet, but I’m preparing and I don’t want to ask questions in the middle of surgery  Cool.  The book indicates my carb is a high-speed fixed orifice.  The orifice and plug should be in the same location as the high speed needle would be if I had one.

However, through looking at the exploded parts chart and consulting the service manual looks like the high-speed orifice is located inside and in the middle of the float bowl and float or at least in an inconvenient place to adjust while operating at wot...  (Refer to attached exploded chart page, orifice plug is item 23 so I assume orifice is viewed after plug is removed).

Are there two high-speed orifices?  How does one make the adjustment for max rpms at wot with an orifice, especially if the orifice is not in a convenient place...  Undecided

Cheers!

You have a single high speed jet...which sends fuel through an emulsion tube into the throat of the carb.

Your jet is best left as is.

Thank you for the reply.  Through reviewing the manual some more it doesn't indicate removing the high-speed orifice but it does indicate removing the high speed orifice plug and check the orifice for cleanliness.  If it isn't clean I assume remove high-speed orifice and clean?

Thoughts?  Huh

Based upon your comment sounds like I can remove the plug but don't touch, adjust, twist, or sneeze at the high-speed orifice?  Correct  Tongue

Thanks!

But if its dirty.... it have to come out.

Thanks for the info.  I'll take the plug out and look in there with a flash light to see how dirty it is, perhaps I don't have to take the orifice out to clean...

Definately don't want to break the jet...  Undecided
