Installing an Engine on a Transom. "Tiller Models"

Locate the center of the transom.

A, B, C, D should all be equal.

a represents the center.

Support the engine with a lifting hook or harness.

Use a hoist that will lift at least 500lbs.

Setting the height of the engine.

1. Measure the transom height of your boat.  The boat bottom should be aligned or be within 1 inch of the anti-ventilation plate of the outboard.

a represents the anti-ventilation plate.

Set the engine in place on the transom and clamp it, so it cannot move.  If the engine has thumb screws use these.

With a 1/2 in drill bit, drill 1 of the top holes thru.  Place tape where the holes are to be drilled to prevent flaking.

Install the bolt and tighten snugly.

Drill the next 3 holes if applicable.

Remove the first bolt and pull the engine off and put a sealer around the holes OR put sealer on the bolts prior to installing them.  This will stop water from entering through the holes. <---Doing both is far better than just one or the other.

Realign the engine and bolt it on.

Please keep in mind, it is always better to Bolt the engine on rather than just rely on Thumb Screws.  On sudden sharp turns, the Thumb Screws can slip off the transom causing damage or in some cases death.
